Seal itTop-Sealing Dampers
Airtight dampers mounted at the top of the flue, operated by a handle in the firebox, that stop air loss and keep critters out.
- Gasketed seal
- Built-in rain cap
- Fits most masonry flues
Most Huntersville homes have a fireplace that gets used a handful of nights a year. The rest of the time, a leaky old damper lets air-conditioning pour straight up the flue. The neighborhoods have HOAs that care exactly which stone and brick you use, and the old farm roads still have fieldstone chimneys from the 1800s. We handle all three from our shop on Reese Blvd, and the phone is answered any hour.
Choose a situation
Factory throat dampers rust and warp, leaving gaps that let air flow even when "closed".
Feel a breeze by the hearth, or smell soot on muggy days? Air is moving through the flue.
A spring-loaded lid at the top of the flue seals with a gasket and doubles as a cap.
Tight glass doors cut drafts, and a sealed insert turns a decorative fireplace into real heat.
Birkdale, Skybrook, Northstone and many others have architectural committees. Here's how we keep your project moving.
We document the stone, brick, mortar color and cap style you'll need to submit.
We bring stone and brick samples to compare against your existing chimney in daylight.
Before-and-proposed photos help the committee say yes quickly.

Long before Birkdale Village, this was farm country. Homes near Latta Place, Rural Hill and the old roads toward Long Creek still have chimneys of fieldstone and handmade brick.
Uncut fieldstone depends heavily on its mortar, which wears away over generations.
The original mortar was soft. Portland cement patches trap moisture and crack the stone.
Most were built before liners existed. A properly sized liner makes them usable again.
With the right materials, these chimneys can last another century.

A real person picks up, even on holidays. Smoke coming into the room, water dripping into the firebox or an animal stuck in the flue all get a prompt reply. If you see fire outside the firebox or your CO detector goes off, get out and dial 911 before calling us.
On a hot day, hold your hand or a strip of tissue near the closed damper. If you feel air moving or the tissue flutters, conditioned air is escaping. A rusty, warped damper plate is another giveaway.
It's a damper installed at the top of the chimney with a rubber gasket that seals tightly when closed. A cable runs down to the firebox so you can open it before a fire. It also works as a cap.
Most like-for-like repairs are simple to approve. We supply a materials list, samples and photos so your architectural committee has what it needs.
Usually very closely. We source matching veneer or natural stone and tint mortar to blend with what's already there.
Often, yes, after repointing with suitable mortar and adding a properly sized liner. We inspect it first to make sure the structure is sound.
